ACLA - Pro Audio started life as a sound hire company and recording studio named Audio-Connection in 1991.
Starting out with very little money we bought second hand gear. Amongst this gear were some very badly built home-made speakers which sounded horrible, big mistake. We couldn't afford any of the big name brands at the time so we settled for some "cheapies". They looked better but sounded even worse than the previous lot! By the third gig everything went snap,crackle and pop.
We soon learned that buying cheap was getting very expensive!
So we decided to build our own speakers. Getting the best speaker drivers we could at the time (and some help from guys who knew what they were doing) we designed cabs for them and set about building them. They were big and UGLY but sounded great and served us well for many years on the road.
Forward to the present. After many years of experimenting, learning and testing we focused our research and design on "modern" line array systems and discovered that it was based on very old technology...... column speakers. Lots of little loudspeakers make a big noise. We realised that by adding high frequency waveguides and subwoofers you can overcome some of the inherent problems that the early columns had.
We designed a very compact, high power system with 12" subs and 5" columns with HF waveguides driven by a 10 000W amp, put it on the backseat of a small family car and took it on the road for a year. Initially it was designed to do full bands in small to medium sized venues but we soon found ourselves doing some open air festivals with them and added 15" and 18" subwoofers to the rig.
We decided to try them in the studio because they were sounding so good live and were built to studio specifications. Wow, what a unique experience with tons of headroom and a 'sweetspot" that fills most of the control room, they stayed.
After much consideration and countless comments from both engineers and the general public about how good the sound was we decided to manufacture the systems and ACLA was born.
Our aim is to bring you the best quality systems, at the best price, with the smallest footprint.
